Travel and Tourism Agents Welcome Relaxation of COVID-19 Measures

21 February 2022 - 17:36

Travel and tourism agents welcome Government’s announcement reducing quarantine for primary contacts and its commitment to eliminate quarantine for vaccinated primary contacts from 7th March 2022 provided the virus numbers remain under control.   They also welcome the plan to eliminate the mandatory use of masks in public outdoor spaces as of 14th March 2022.

In the context of such relaxation of measures, the Federated Association of Travel & Tourism Agents (FATTA) urges the authorities to harmonise and realign the mandatory standards applicable to travel and tourism services accordingly.

Specifically, the restriction of the number of persons in public spaces (currently limited to not more than six) should be removed completely or at least relaxed considerably.   Similarly, the limited capacity restrictions on tourist coaches, minibuses, ferry services and commercial passenger vessels (currently 80%) should be removed and operators permitted to carry their respective full capacity as licensed.

FATTA also urges the authorities to carefully and regularly review the list of countries / zones subject to an effective travel ban (dark red list), to further facilitate authorisation to travel to such destinations for fully vaccinated holders of a valid vaccination certificate issued by the Maltese Authorities and to apply the same reduced quarantine measures upon their return as those applicable for primary contacts.
